hey Rena-chan how has it been going Right before the Fog came in I got really sick with migraines And now I'm finally well enough to at least go outside but apparently everything is locked up I thought, maybe Rena-chan is lonely like this and I should go see you... Would that be ok

[Mahiru is on a bench outside the apartment, with the special posture (that it's lapsed at all is itself a bad sign) of someone who finds sitting itself to be a physical effort. She's wearing a dress that they bought together but there is a clear rip in the fabric. Both her purse and her messenger bag, though not her camera, are slung around her shoulders, unzipped, with not-as-everyday items like a toothbrush sticking out haphazardly. Her eyes are closed.]

[The door creaks open and a still-blue eye peeks out. Mahiru's eyes are closed and it takes a fair amount of self-control not to breathe a sigh of relief.]

Mahiru-chan? Rena's coming out now, okay? Okay? [Before Mahiru can respond, Rena steps into the daylight. She needs to do it before she can change her mind.

It's not as bad as it could be, and she's taken care to wear a freshly-ironed, sleeveless dress from their shopping excursion. She keeps her folded neatly in front of her to show she is unarmed, but that means she can't hide how tightly they're clenched.

Her skin is healing, scratch marks now little more than ugly scabs and bruises fading yellow-green on her already greenish skin. The Venus flytrap growths have nestled themselves comfortably on her shoulders, mouths ready and waiting to snap up any insect that flies too close to their mistress. She's gotten used to the ferns in her hair, even managed to style them in a way that cutely frames her face.

Rena stands, still as a statue and eyes to the ground, waiting for Mahiru to pass judgment.]

Rena-chan...

[Mahiru opens her dilated eyes, revealing her only external change. Green is a good thing - a change this pervasive makes it almost certain that she didn't get the hunger already. A goblin or kelpie? No, Mahiru can see now - it's like a photograph a millimeter under her nose even though the other girl is several paces away - her face is so round and cute and immediately recognizable. The first thing that comes to mind is from a pattern Mahiru can't believe she's able to pick out so precisely.]

[Rena lets out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding. A harsh voice hisses in her ear that Mahiru is just too shocked to process her disgust, but she shakes it away as best she can.

She smiles, as sweetly and disarmingly as she can.]

Yeah. [...And then, hesitantly.] Is it weird?

[Of course it's weird, but if Mahiru didn't mind it, then Rena can deal with it.]

Not for a nymph.

[Mahiru has never actually seen a nymph up close, only Kieren's drawings. She's guessing. Rena is safe - her teeth are still soft, her smile is wider than ever - and her scratches are healing again... that's what matters.

She tries to stand up, ready to be closer again, but her body has other ideas and she's barely on both feet before she reaches behind her with one hand to brace with the back of the bench ]

[Nymph...she had been too distressed to look up the label for her specific subset of changes. All she knew was that she felt both wrong and incomplete at the same time.

But all that is relegated to the back of her mind when Mahiru falters. Her hesitance is lost and in an instant Rena is at her side, one hand tenderly clasped around an arm for support.]

Do you want to talk more inside? Rena's room isn't far...

[And there are plenty of soft things for her to lie on if Mahiru is feeling overwhelmed.]

[There she is. Mahiru hasn't realized what an effective anchor Rena will continue to be. Her skin may be green; at least not cold or unsteady like a plant swaying in the wind. Ferns or not, Rena is obviously a person, and Mahiru needs this; she clings with her own arm, more readily than in the mall.

How pathetic, that even the implied short distance is a relief to Mahiru, but she nods, looking into her eyes.]

Sure, I'm - sorry I didn't say yes right away...
